Thalos Publishes New Book on Philosophy and Reasoning

Thalos Publishes New Book on Philosophy and Reasoning

June 10, 2026 by Kaitlin Coyle

Mariam Thalos.

Mariam Thalos, Distinguished Professor of Philosophy and DySoC affiliate, has published a new book titled Reasoning in the Wild: The Public Works of Reason (Routledge).

The book explores reasoning as a fundamentally social process, shaped by public discourse, shared understanding, and human communication rather than existing solely as an abstract logical system. Thalos argues that philosophers and social scientists alike should rethink how reason operates within the complex networks of human connection.

Reasoning in the Wild is also available via open access.
